天氣變涼了，短短的夏季也結束了… 唉，無情的夏天，說走就走，留下我獨自面對漫長又寒冷的冬天 (哭~~~)
不管再怎麼難過，也要面對現實。樂觀地想，又有多少人能夠在 -30ºC 的冰天雪地中，度過聖誕節呢? 哈哈哈 (苦笑)! 好，今年冬天，我會補上照片讓大家感受感受加拿大酷寒的威力!
There aren’t many Mexican restaurants around in Calgary, but there is one in town that our friend said has the best fish tacos he’s ever had. Los Chilitos is hidden on the 17th ave, in between 12 and 13 st SW. In the winter, the patio is closed which makes it quite unnoticeable. When we visited this place for the first time last Friday, we were suspicious if we arrived the correct location because it looked like someone’s house from the outside. When we opened the main door and realized that it was fully packed, we knew that this is the place. We didn’t make reservation beforehand, but we were lucky that it only took us 10 minutes to get a table for 4.
The restaurant is quite small, could probably accommodate 9~10 tables of customers. The orange-painted and colorful decorations made you feel as though you were in Mexico.
It is always fun to try exotic drinks whenever we are at a place that serves foreign cuisine The mexican soda ($2.95/bottle) was artificially flavored (as you can tell from the vivid colors), bubbly, and tasted very very sweet.
We ordered the Nachos Libres as appetizer. The serving size was large. Even though we knew that we should save some space in our stomach for tacos, we couldn’t help eating all the nachos. Everything–the salsa sauce, avocado and bean paste–was so fresh. I particularly liked its homemade corn chips, which were thicker and crispier than the usual tortilla chips.
The fish tacos has a serving size of 3 tacos. Each is fully filled with fresh ingredients like lettuce, salsa, mayo, jalapeno, and breaded basa fish. The fish was very fresh and soft. The only problem I had while eating was that it was difficult to wrap each tortilla nicely and eat it courteously without the ingredients falling out.
The quesadilla came with corn chips, guacamole, salsa and sour cream on the side. The tortilla from the was a bit thicker and floury. The pork was tender and had a smoky flavor to it. It reminded me of the dry pork jerky I had in Taiwan.
At the end, Kev and I couldn’t finish 1/3 of what we ordered so we had to pack the leftovers. The food are a bit pricey there, but reasonable given its portion and quality.
My review: My experience at Los Chilitos was like the macarons. The restaurant doesn’t look fancy itself, but you will be amazed by the quality of the food it serves.
